HR professionals: Get ahead on FMLA
Absence management educational series offered by Unum, DMEC
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Jan. 14, 2020) – Busy HR professionals and people managers can improve their knowledge of the Family and Medical Leave Act and more from the comfort of their office.
Unum (NYSE: UNM) and the Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) are offering a five-part virtual education series, which will focus on top areas of concern for employers. Starting this month, the sessions include a one-hour presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.
The first session on Tuesday, Jan. 21, explores the top 10 FMLA challenges. HR professionals can get their questions answered on how to:
- Evaluate potential abuse of FMLA.
- Define “foreseeable.”
- Communicate ineligibility.
- Know the difference between Look Forward and Look Back Rules.
- Manage a change in eligibility when an employee is on leave.
- Keep in touch with employees on leave while respecting their privacy.
The sessions are free for Unum customers and DMEC members, and $29.99 for nonmembers. Unum customers should contact their sales representatives for a promotional code. Most sessions, including the one in January, qualify for the following continuing education units: 1 CLMS, 1 CPDM, 1 PHR, and 1 SHRM.
“The VEF series provides HR professionals and managers high-quality, affordable training on a variety of complex topics,” said Terri L. Rhodes, DMEC CEO. “Attendees leave with up-to-the-minute information on Department of Labor (DOL) guidance, and tips for how to navigate common challenges.”
For nearly two decades, Unum and DMEC have partnered on the Virtual Education Forum Series, one of the first web-based learning forums in the industry, to share expertise on disability and absence management. The remaining sessions will be posted on DMEC’s website.
