Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maine receives $175,000 Commemorative Grant

Portland, Maine (October 17, 2023) - As part of Unum’s yearlong 175th anniversary celebration, several non-profit organizations will receive special commemorative gifts, including a one-time gift of $175,000 in Chattanooga, Columbia and Portland.

The Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maine, the first recipient of the $175,000 Commemorative Grant, provides summer and after-school programs Monday through Friday to 3,000 members ages 6-18 who attend their Clubs each year. Through this commemorative gift, Unum will help fund the Club’s new Bridge to Success program, which provides support to older teens through transition from high school to their next step in life.

The Boys and Girls Club’s mission aligns to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Equitable Pathways Focus Area, which provides equitable opportunities for socio-economically disadvantaged students to thrive through funding programs that encourage social-emotional health, provide career and post-secondary preparation and remove barriers to post-secondary success.

Boys and Girls Clubs provide stable, inclusive spaces for children and teens to find a sense of belonging, explore their creative abilities, practice community responsibility, and develop meaningful relationships with peers and adults.
